Hmmm......

A few observations:
1) Although Billy Packer thought there was no intent, how does one block with an elbow?
2) If Henderson's contact was incidental, he did very little to make any effort to apologize (as one would if the contact really was an accident). He looked quite defiant walking off the court.
3) I understand that may be the Dukies wanted to make a statement. I'm not quite sure why Hansbrough was still in the game - the key starters should have been out of the game by then. Check Coach K's comments - it seems that they may have not liked having the starters still in the game.
4) The Duke-UNC rivalry is a great one with great moments and great games - that Henderson elbow is one of the lowest moments I can remember.

Come on, Jin. Henderson blocks a lot of guys shots with his elbow. He's not a dirty player. I can't remember one play this season that was even borderline. He just loves skying to block shots.

The Seos and Yoos watched the game together. I don't know whether it was intentional or not, but Dave and I high-fived each other after it happened. I haven't had too much trouble with any carolina players in the past, but TH bothers the hell out of me. Watching him bleed and cry was the only bright spot for the evening.

D - Has Duke Basketball spiraled down so much that something like that is a cause for celebration? Of course, I don't like to watch the Dukies win, either, but a cheap shot is a cheap shot with no place in sports.

Brian - I'm not saying he's a dirty player - I just think he was a frustrated player who didn't like the fact that Hansbrough was still in the game. I'm not trying to be a whiner (although I'm sure I sound like one by now), but sometimes, I think we excuse players for too many things and not hold them accountable.

And the blogger wakes up....

I think Henderson was frustrated about the game and wanted to either block the hell out of the ball or just make a hard foul. The ball slipped out after Henderson made his move and he probably already committed to his aggressive move and smacked TH's nose. Not intentional, but too out of control to prevent this hard foul.

I'm a bit disappointed on Coach K's comments afterwards about whether the starters should have been in the game. I hate that excuse, and if Roy wanted to pound the hell out of our team by keeping his starters in, so be it. We deserved to be spanked after our piss-poor performance over the last 10 minutes. Although it was unfortunate what happened to TH (although, I agree with Dave, a bit satisfying since TH is truly bothersome), Henderson was the only one who really showed any toughness on our team.

To vent even further, what good is Zoubek? I mean, I thought Casey Sanders was a waste of 7 feet, but can Zoubek actually do anything? And Lance Thomas get's blocked so much, I bet even Jin Hyuk can block his shot. Our team is not as bad as '95, but things look bleak for the tourney.

i agree with eric's assessment... didn't go "looking" to clock TH... but was aggressive and well... TH's face was nearby... so he "included" it into his move...

K was his usual class act... blaming it on the fact that carolina's starters were in the game... the question is... did he verbalize that to the team?... and "spark" any frustration?...

this is duke vs carolina... nothing is left to chance... 1 min out and you are not going to pull starters... and i know that if roles were reversed, none of you guys would've felt "comfortable" until that 30 sec mark... too much can happen even then...

besides the last time i checked the lineup, duke had their starters in the game as well........ hmmm...

henderson played a good game... i'd be pissed at my teammates if i was him...

on a different note... WHY IN THE HELL DOES PACKER COVER OUR GAMES?!?!?!... it is clear that the fool HATES carolina and duke... his comments SUCK...

anyway... we'll end this blog with one word (since we seem to only get this chance every 11 yrs)...

sweep.... :)

Enough already, foolios. Roy Williams, Reyshawn Terry, and Danny Green have all come out and publicly said that neither the play nor the player was dirty. It's a rivalry game. Things happen. And TH was fouled by some walkon named Steve Johnson. I don't believe he's a starter for us.
And for the record, I admire TH's tenacity and toughness. But I do think his athleticism has been somewhat exposed this year.
Congrats to Carolina. Y'all were clearly better than us this year.

Jin -

Hard foul by GH on TH draws blood and breaks his nose. Dave Yoo smiles inside because:

A. He's a bastard.
B. UNC > DUKE basketball this year.
C. A&B TRUE-TRUE unrelated.
D. A&B TRUE-TRUE related.

The correct answer is C.

Let the record show that the cause for my celebration is a reflection of my character and not the current state of Duke Basketball.

I'm glad this posting has stirred some response.
Hansbrough is a SPAZ - plays hard - type of guy you hate to play against but probably like having on your side. I'm sure if he played for Duke some of your feelings may be different.

Dave, in terms of your character, uh....Never mind. Again, Congrats to the newest Daddy to be! Any thought on names? How about Dean?

Jin -

If I knew my kid was going to have TSH's nose-to-be, Dean would be pretty fitting. Seriously, we're going to name him Daniel after my brother.

My last post before I go in the bunker for my in-service board exam on Thursday (hence the multiple choice question format earlier and bad attitude overall):

I must admit that I looked at the video of the smack-down several times (more fun than prostate follow-ups all day at the VA when there's a Norovirus outbreak). This one's got some annoying rap music but it has several slo-mo loops of the play:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cqrNQCe6l8

If you look closely, you can see that our paleboy walk-on Johnson #51 goes over the back of TSH and pushes him anteriorly and to the right with his left arm. The ball gets blocked to the right and TSH bends forward at the waist to grab the ball and KAPLOWWWW, hurts GH's innocent right elbow.

From the camera angle behind the backboard, you can see TSH triangulated between pocious, paleboy, and GH. Right after GH takes off for the block, TSH's nose is to the right of the rim. As the ball ricochets away, GH rotates his body and starts to swing toward the ball. At the moment of impact, because of paleboy's actions and TSH bending at the waist, the nose formerly known as TSH's nose is now at the left margin of the rim. Clearly then, you can see his head go back, and to the left. . . back, and to the left . . . back, and to the left.

The best part for me now is seeing pocious display his "matador defense" technique as he watches TSH go past him on the way to meet the ground.

By the way, speaking of Dean again, this was pretty funny. At the end is a parody of the Geico caveman commercial with Dean and Bobby Knight.

personally... i liken tyler's b-ball skills to mine... pass the ball in... 4 people collapse on me... 4 teammates are now open... do i pass it out?... hell no... i pump fake 8 times... you all jump... i get raked, scratched, and fouled.......

athletic skills?... i get the pump-fakes... what i don't get is... how in the world he lays the ball in, without banking it off the backboard... the skill is in the footwork...

for me?... i just called "foul" before any of you called "travel"... :)

anyway... you can trash TH all you want... i'll enjoy hearing it for 2 more years... :)

where's dong-kyu?...

thanks for that visual on the prostrate exams, yoo... that's gotta be nasty...... eecchhh...

hey!!! is seo moving?...... heard texas is in his future?!?!....

Thanks guys,

I really enjoy the banter- i have to admit- I couldn't watch the last 2 minutes of the game- it was pathetic. In the morning, I heard about it, and thank goodness for YOUTUBE-

Clearly GH was out to deliver a hard foul-
TH is a guy youlove to hate- much like BHurley was- now TH will look more like Hurley.

Dave, I will miss your contribution to the banter- visuals included.

this is the first year that I can't put Duke in my final four bracket!

Hooray for babies sleeping through the night!!

Dave - Dude, I love the way you broke all that down. That was unbelievable! All you had to mention was the shooter behind the grassy knoll....Oh, wait a second, that was the JFK thing.

Anyway, thanks for your perspective & keeping things entertaining.

Daniel Yoo - Hopefully, he'll have a better golf swing than his old man.
